Summary

Reporting to the Senior Conservator, the Andrew W. Mellon Fellow will engage in the examination and treatment of works of art on paper, participate in activities related to preventive conservation, exhibitions, and loans. The position offers training and research opportunities, including a stipend for research and travel, which is awarded at the discretion of the Director of Conservation. This Fellowship is a one-year position with the potential for renewal.

Responsibilities:

  • Examines and treats a wide range of works of art on paper, photographs, books, and archival materials.
  • Supports preventive conservation activities, exhibitions, and loans, as well as conservation outreach.
  • Collaborates with conservators, conservation scientists, collections care specialists, curators, and other Museum staff.
  • Develops a research project focused on artist materials or techniques and/or new treatment methodologies in collaboration with the Center’s Research Laboratory.
  • Participates in lectures, symposia, workshops, as well as visits, and collaborates with nearby cultural institutions.
  • Couriers artworks on loan or exhibition to other museums and institutions if necessary.
  • Performs other duties or special projects as assigned.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
  • Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change, or new ones may be assigned at any time.

Eligibility

  • Master’s Degree in Paper Conservation or equivalent experience.
  • Experience conducting research.
  • Great communication and collaboration skills.
  • Demonstrates visual, manual, and scholarly aptitudes.

Compensation

$25 per hour
