Summary

In the InterseXtions: Gender & Sexuality internship, interns explore gender and sexuality in art. You’ll also work together to organize Museum programming for queer and trans youth and allies.

Through thoughtful and exploratory activities, InterseXtions teens affirm the connection between art and identity while building meaningful connections with peers.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Learn about LGBTQ+ social movements and artists working today
  • Meet educators, artists, and curators to learn about art and the Brooklyn Museum’s collections through a queer lens
  • Share readings and analyze issues of representation in art and media
  • Discuss topics such as feminism, sexuality, and social justice to make connections between art and the world
  • Create art expressing your own interpretation of these topics
  • Plan, organize, and promote a free, large-scale event for LGBTQ+ teens and allies
  • Connect with community organizations and emerging artists and performers
  • Build affirming, joyful community spaces for queer and trans youth and allies
  • Strengthen communication, collaboration, critical thinking, advocacy, time management, and media literacy skills

Key Details

Salary: $17–18/hour

Program Dates: November 2026–June 2027

Schedule:

  • Tuesdays: weekly meetings, 4:30–6:30 pm
  • Fridays and weekends: occasional teen staff events, field trips, and activities

Deadline: October 18, 2026


Eligibility

This program is open to all NYC high school students.
