Summary

The Museum of Art is offering an internship for undergraduate (Junior or Senior class standing) or current graduate-level students working towards or with a degree in Art History, American Studies, Museum Studies, or other related fields. Recent graduates from such programs are also welcomed to apply. Intern will assist Museum staff with projects involving research of the museum’s collections, exhibitions, and collections care.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the curatorial team to research objects in the collection and upcoming exhibitions.
  • Review and organize materials relating to historical research.
  • Support and contribute to the development of interpretive materials.
  • Assist with tracking and recording object movements and locations.
  • Learn to operate EmbARK collections database to assist with object records, associated images and corresponding physical files.
  • Participate in the installation/deinstallation of exhibitions.
  • Complete additional tasks as necessary.

15 hours/week for 12 weeks (June 1 – August 21, 2026)

Eligibility

  • Junior or Senior class standing or recent graduate from an accredited college or university.
  • Have or pursing a degree in Art History, Museum Studies, or other related fields.
  • Desire to work in a museum setting.

Compensation

$16 per hour

Cheekwood is a 55-acre botanical garden, arboretum, and art museum located on the historic Cheek estate. Originally built as the home of Leslie and Mabel Cheek in 1929, Cheekwood is one of the finest examples of an American Country Place Era estate. Since being converted into a museum of art and botanical garden in 1960, Cheekwood has presented world-class art exhibitions, spectacular gardens and an historic estate unlike anything else.
